- Generally, how does it work?
New technology makes your older furnace or boiler more efficient, running like a car on the highway rather than one stuck in stop-and-go city traffic. Even better, it adds a new intelligent digital "cruise control" to your system as well.
- How does it do that?
By adding sensors to your system, it can be more intelligently controlled and monitored. The digital controller uses these sensors to match the demand, heat requirement and burner cycle time to increase efficiency of your system. Your system runs with longer burn times and significantly reduces the number of starts and stops. As a result you get more energy with less wear and tear on the heating system. You save money all around by both using less energy and extending the lifetime of your heating system.
- How do Energytime products make systems more efficient?
Energytime products add additional sensors and an intelligent microprocessor to almost any heating or air conditioning system. Using these sensors, the processor optimizes runtimes to adjust to actual conditions. For example, in the case of a furnace, normally the thermostat calls for heat and the circulating system starts, quickly followed by the burner igniting. By adding sensors and an intelligent controller, the circulator is allowed to run (extracting resident heat from the system) but delays the burner ignition based on the return temperature of the water or air. Cold air or water that quickly returns to the furnace gets a minimum burner delay. Warm returns mean less heat load is required (it's a warmer day) and the burner is delayed longer. Because the furnace is delayed before starting, it will run longer in each cycle and eliminating the inefficient short starts and stops. This saves wear and tear on the furnace, reduces emissions and improves performance by 10%- 20% or more.
- Does the house get colder?
No, there is no sacrifice in the comfort of your house. Probably the only thing you'll notice is a reduction in your energy bill.
- Does it affect domestic hot water production?
No, additional sensors control the efficient use of hot water production also. Forced hot air heating systems have separate hot water tanks and systems that require their own separate digital controllers to provide an energy saving "setback" function. Energytime sells and installs these also.
- What solutions do you have to save energy for hot water heaters?
The best solution is to simply turn them off in the unused hours and turn them back on before they're needed. Energytime sells a professionally installed, commercial grade, digital setback timer that provides the flexibility to accommodate almost any busy schedule and vacations.
- What does the heating system controller look like?
It is a small box containing electronics about 4" x 6" x 2". There are no controls or programming required. The controller automatically adjusts to provide the proper amount of heat for each circumstance, re-calibrating every few seconds.
- How does it install?
It's a non-invasive installation by a qualified, trained and state-licensed technician. All of the sensors and the controller are attached to the furnace or boiler-there are no holes to drill through exterior walls or into the heating system.
- Where is it installed?
For heat it's mounted onto the furnace next to the gray "Honeywell" box. For air conditioning it's mounted on the compressor, in the large vented box outside the house. Heating and AC units are different products.
- What happens to the controller when the power goes out?
Nothing. No manual intervention is required when the power is restored. The unit restores itself automatically-no resetting is required.
- How much does it cost?
-
Unit prices vary for heating, cooling and refrigeration depending on its use, residential, light commercial or heavy industrial application. See the specifications sheets for the proper unit to suit your application then go to the ordering page to see your discounted pricing.
In some areas, Energytime provides complete service, including installation by certified, insured and licensed electricians. See the ordering section of this website for details. In addition, units are generally available through our website for installation by local, qualified, licensed and insured contractors and electricians. Installation typically takes 30 to 60 minutes per unit.
Purchasing orders can be placed through this website.
- What is the annual service fees ?
There are NO ANNUAL MAINTENANCE FEES or hidden costs.
- How much will it save?
With conditions normalized for yearly hot and cold weather you will save between 10~20% of your present fuel consumption, guaranteed, using the intelligent digital controller vs. without.
- What are the guarantee details?
The US manufacturer guarantees that you will save at least 10% of your present energy consumption, based on normalized conditions. Field and laboratory testing proves it and thousands of units have been sold and installed nation-wide. That is a written guarantee which comes with each and every unit sold.
- What's the warranty?
The manufacturer provides a manufacturers warranty for breakdown and defects for 15 years on the original installation. Energytime provides a 3-year warranty for installation related services.
- How reliable is it?
There are over 100,000 in the field and, to date, 2 have been returned to the factory.
- Does using an intelligent controller affect any of the pollutants put into the atmosphere by my furnace?
Yes. Your heating system will be more efficient, generate less soot and put out fewer harmful pollutants into our atmosphere. Major sources of residential pollutants are the unburned gases left in the furnaces as they start and stop. Fewer starts and stops mean fewer pollutants and less greenhouse gases for all of us. Truly a green solution.
- Why haven't I heard of this before?
Although the technology is almost 10 years old, a full line of residential controllers was not available until recently. Previously used on "high-end" residential and commercial systems, now we offer retrofit-able controllers for most commercial and residential forced hot air heating systems, baseboard systems, based on any fuel source: oil, gas or propane. Additional units are now available to reduce air conditioning costs as well.
- Where is it made?
DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED IN THE USA.
- Are tax credits available?
To the best of our knowledge, not yet, but we're working on it.
- Will my service company have any trouble coping with the intelligent controller systems during maintenance or service?
No, there is a by-pass switch in every controller that allows the system to revert to normal operation. Just be sure the by pass switch is back to "on" when they are done.
- If I have several zones will I need multiple controllers?
No, the sensors are centrally located so all zones are controlled and monitored at a system-wide level.
- Does Energytime sell and install other things?
Yes, Energytime sells state-of-the-art intelligent digital controllers for residential hot water heating systems, forced hot air heating systems, central air conditioning systems, digital setback systems for hot water tanks, setback thermostats and lighting all guaranteed to save money for you each and every year.
